In this tutorial, we demonstrate how to configure the Mousetracking component in Task Builder 2.
In this task, participants need to view the Image components and choose one of the two Text components on the screen with Click Response components as the correct answer. In the Screen Tab, the Mousetracking component has been added.
For the Mousetracking component, we can choose whether to toggle on Record Coordinates. If this is toggled off, then you will only obtain data relating to the Response Duration and Proportion of the mouse position in relation to the Text components on the screen. You will not receive the mouse coordinates in the output.
If you would like to receive the exact coordinates of the mouse position on the screen, Record Coordinates should be toggled on. By doing so, you will receive an additional spreadsheet which contains the full coordinates data regarding the mouse position. When previewing the task, this spreadsheet can be accessed via the data file. When running a full experiment, all of the coordinate recording files can be accessed from the 'Download Experiment Data' button on your Experiment's Data page.
To centre the participant's mouse position at the start of each trial, we have added a screen with a centred Continue Button immediately before the trial screen. Participants must click this button to proceed - this will ensure their mouse is positioned appropriately at the start of the trial.
